Get to Know Our Practice Champions
Our Practice Champions
At John Hampden Surgery, members of our team take on additional Champion roles to help improve patient experience, accessibility and wellbeing within the practice.
Our Champions work closely with patients, carers and local services to ensure we provide inclusive, supportive and forward-thinking care for our community.
Maria – Digital Champion
Maria supports patients in using the NHS App and accessing digital and telephone services with confidence.
She provides guidance both in person and over the phone, helping patients with logging in, understanding features and using digital tools safely and effectively. Maria also leads on digital and IT updates within the practice, helping improve systems and ensuring services remain accessible, up to date and easy to use for both patients and staff.
Laura – Learning Disability Champion
Laura helps ensure patients with a learning disability receive inclusive, accessible and person-centred care.
She coordinates annual Learning Disability health reviews, arranges personalised invitations and supports reasonable adjustments such as longer appointments, quieter environments and easy-read information. Laura also maintains the Learning Disability Register and works closely with carers and external services to promote positive healthcare experiences and reduce health inequalities.
Shirley – Dementia Champion
Shirley supports patients living with dementia and their families by helping ensure the practice remains welcoming, understanding and dementia-friendly.
She works with the team to promote awareness, share knowledge and encourage best practice, helping improve the experience and care provided to those affected by dementia.
Suzanne – Cancer Awareness Champion
Suzanne supports patients and their families by providing reassurance, guidance and practical help throughout their care.
She assists with appointments and prescriptions where needed and promotes cancer awareness within the practice, helping patients feel informed, supported and cared for.
Jenny – Carers Champion
Jenny supports registered carers at John Hampden Surgery and recognises the vital role they play in caring for loved ones and friends.
Her role focuses on providing guidance, advocacy and reassurance, helping carers feel recognised, supported and able to access the help available to them. Jenny works to create a welcoming environment for carers within the practice and helps signpost to local services, resources and information that may be helpful.
She is committed to ensuring carers feel listened to, valued and supported whenever they need assistance.
Lucy Green – Green Champion
Lucy promotes environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient ways of working across the practice.
Working alongside the Practice Manager, she encourages initiatives that reduce waste, improve recycling and support responsible use of resources, helping create a safer and more sustainable healthcare environment for patients and staff.
