Do you need vaccinations?

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

Please contact the surgery as soon as you know your travel arrangements. You will be requested to complete a short travel questionnaire which should be returned to us to allow the nurse to review your trip and make recommendations.

Once your questionnaire has been returned please allow 7-10 days for the nurse to review the details and then contact the surgery after 2pm where a member of our reception team will liaise the recommendations and make appropriate appointments for you.

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Your medication when on holiday abroad

We advise that you take some form of evidence of the medication you are taking when you go on an overseas holiday, in case you mislay anything.  This may help you get replacement medication from a pharmacist or doctor while you are away.  Your evidence could be in the form of a patient medication history (the repeat prescription slip you get from the pharmacist) if you have one to hand, or making sure you have the NHS App on a mobile phone you take with you.
